Shawn and I went to Dallas this past weekend, a nice little mini-get-a-way. We stayed at a fancy bed and breakfast. I don’t think they really liked us showing up so late though. We had hoped to leave at 3:30, stop for dinner in Dallas and get there around 8 or 9, but we didn’t make it out of Austin til 4:30 or 5 and hit multiple city rush hours. So dinner was road snacks and we arrived a little after 9:30. We forgot to send ahead any dietary restrictions, but breakfast was still great for me. We skipped the egg dish, but still had a fruit cup, broiled asparagus and tomatoes, and a banana. And then some more asparagus (it was really good!) Oh, and there was this amazing tapestry in the bed and breakfast. It seemed to be warp faced rather than weft faced. Or maybe was woven sideways? I stared at it a whole bunch. And took a lot of pictures.
Then we were off to the museum. It was a slow start with some pretty questionable quality exhibits, plus the planetarium was having problems and couldn’t put on their star show – huge bummer! But things picked up once we found the dinos. We had been worried because Shawn’s mom had called to tell us there was supposed to be 4-6 feet of snow (she meant inches), but it was actually a really nice day.
A few other treats:
Check out the fabric covering the machines in the fossil lab!
These kids were using sticks to fling nasty pond scum at each other. And loving it! But I’m still glad they weren’t riding home in my car!
And new coins for my collection.
